Description of Camps and Activities!

Adventurers Camp (Ages 7-10)

This camp is designed for campers who are ready to enjoy nature at its max! Base Camp provides a full camp experience...fun, friendships and excitement. Remaining on-site for the entire week, campers enjoy virtually every activity we have to offer. (All Base Camps include; High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Archery, Gymnastics, Basketball, Swimming, Arts and Crafts.)

If you have an Adventurer Club in your area, this is the camp you want to send your children to.

Jr. / Adventurers also known as "Friendship Camp" (Ages 8-12)

This is a very popular camp, it is designed for kids between the ages of 8 and 12. Parents in particular seem to like this camp because it gives them the option of sending their children to Camp during the same week rather than splitting them between Adventure Camp and Junior Camp, which fall in two different weeks. This camp is ideal for kids who would like to go to camp with their siblings, cousins and or neighbors that may be a little older or a little younger than they are. (All Base Camps include; High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Archery, Gymnastics, Basketball, Swimming, Arts and Crafts.)

Junior Camp (Ages 10-12)

Full activity and excitement is what awaits you during our Junior Camp. This is the ideal camp for energetic campers ready to have fun! There is no doubt you will find old friends that where made in previous years, but you will also have the opportunity to make new friends as you enjoy this summer camp ultimate adventure together. Remaining on-site for the entire week, campers enjoy virtually every activity we have to offer. (All Base Camps include; High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Archery, Gymnastics, Basketball, Swimming, Arts and Crafts.)

Tween Camp (Ages 12-15)

it is designed for campers between the ages of 12 and 17. Teen Camp (Ages 13-17)

Are you ready to reach new heights? This year Camp Wawona has an amazing program lined up just for you! You do not want to miss the opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old friends made last year. Remaining on-site for the entire week, you will enjoy virtually every activity we have to offer. Don’t forget that Teen camp also includes a theme banquet.  Our theme for 2008 is  “Reaching New Heights"  (All Base Camps include; High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, Archery, Gymnastics, Basketball, Swimming, Arts and Crafts.)

Family Camp (All Ages)

This is family time at its best! A safe environment where food, lodging, classes and activities are all included in the price for one week. Enjoy hiking, water sports, horse rides, nutritional meals, inspiring morning devotionals and incredible Christian evening programming. This camp fills up fast, so don’t hesitate to register and prepare for a week your family will NEVER forget!

 

Activities!!!

 

Archery Take a deep breath…. Ready?  You can expect more than just one bull’s-eye in Archery. Learn archery skills from our experienced staff and enjoy this outstanding sport while experiencing the rest of our activities throughout the day. *Special care is taken to follow accepted archery guidelines and ensure everyone has a great time.

Drama Camp Breakout and present yourself onstage! Our drama program offers the opportunity to celebrate your on-stage presence, improve diction, projection and confidence. Plus you’ll have a splendid time performing for your friends.

Cowboy Camp The Old West is long gone, but the fun and enjoyment of riding a horse can still be found at Camp Wawona. Through daily classes, campers receive practical training in the fundamentals of how to handle a horse. As they gain more confidence and increase their understanding of riding, Camp Wawona campers can advance in a number of different riding skills. In determining which programs are best for a camper, all riders will receive a practical test for their riding ability in their first riding session. Then, under the supervision of both a competent counselor and experienced wrangler staff, each camper is placed in an appropriate class for further learning. As in every Camp Wawona activity, safety is stressed and no bucking events are included.

Gymnastics Experience the power of tumbling, acrobatic skills, balance and flexibility. Work as a team and participate in a gymnastic performance. Our instructors love gymnastics and will help you improve and develop your skills.

Guitar Camp This is a wonderful opportunity you don’t want to miss. Whatever level you are at, you’ll love guitar camp. Bring your own guitar and get ready to perform. With our highly skilled staff, you’ll learn new rhythms, correct fingering, and awesome Christian songs. You will have the opportunity to perform during some of our camp council. Come, and try this exciting camp. You’ll love it!

Rock Climbing This great outdoor sport is skyrocketing in popularity and we want you to experience for yourself the excitement that only Rock Climbing can offer. With Yosemite as our backyard, we offer one of the finest climbing programs available. Learn beginners to advanced climbing techniques and moves that will help you master the most difficult climbs. So come, and enjoy wilderness camping and challenging climbing in Yosemite National Park! We encourage you to bring your own harness and shoes. (Campers enjoy a rock-climbing experience at Fresno Dome. They depart Camp Wawona early in the week and return on Thursday morning)

Aquatics Camp If you want something extremely exciting to talk about when you get back to school, come try one of Camp Wawona’s most popular camps. Certified instructors will teach you the latest techniques in skiing, wakeboarding, canoeing or swimming. And if you know how to do all these things, you might just want to try some new tricks 360’s and flips. Maybe this year you’ll finally get to reach your goal to barefoot! In this outpost camp, you will have a whole week with expert instruction and the proper equipment to help you advance in your skill as fast as possible.  *Space is limited to ensure maximum boat time, so get your application in early. Bring your own barefoot suit. Our Aquatics camp takes place on Pine Flats Lake. Campers are off sight from Monday through Thursday. They rejoin us at Camp Wawona for regular camp activities after lunch on Thursday. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll see you soon!

Indian Camp (Survival Camp) What should you do if you find yourself lost? Skills you learn now could save your life in the future. Come learn the basics of outdoor survival and what you should do if you're ever lost in the wilderness. Along the way our instructor will acquaint you with the basic camping skills that will equip you for your next backcountry adventure.

CIT Camp (Counselor in Training Ages 16-17) As a Counselor in Training, enjoy the fun of camp while learning many of the skills needed to work at Camp Wawona. Your instructors will teach you skills that can be used throughout your life and enable you to work more effectively with children!

WIT Camp (Wrangler in training Ages 16-17) As a Wrangler in Training, enjoy the fun of camp while learning many of the skills needed to work at Camp Wawona. Your instructors will teach you skills that can be used throughout your life and enable you to work more effectively with children.

Film Production Camp This exciting camp provides the opportunity to learn the basics of operating a digital video camera, using a computer to import and edit video footage, and producing a DVD of finished work. Participants will work in teams to produce and edit, practice video footage and a final short video project. (Bring your own video camera with a USB port and / or fire-wire outputs) If you don’t have one, we have some for rent but hurry this camp is so popular it fills up fast!

Digital Photography Camp How about something unique this summer? In Digital Photography, you can capture the exciting Camp Wawona activities as you create your digital photo album. Using a computer to import and edit your pictures, you will learn the basics of photo-editing and how to create your own post cards! We will provide you with an instructor and a class computer to learn about digital cameras and digital editing. (You will need to bring your own digital Camera if you don’t have one, we have some for rent) Hurry this camp fills up fast!
