Mission
Mission
Camp Wawona's mission is to transform lives through Jesus Christ with the creative use of nature based education, recreation, retreat, and summer camp ministries.
Philosophy
The primary focus of Camp Wawona is ministry to children and youth. Our ministry provides a creative, outdoor recreational and educational opportunity in group living. It utilizes trained leadership and the resources of the natural surroundings to contribute to each camper’s mental, physical, social, and spiritual growth.
In a world that is saturated with the use of graphic media, summer camp ministry provides a quiet interlude in which campers and staff are invited to build a relationship with the Creator and Sustainer of life. In order to reach this goal, age specific programming is planned that will enhance each camper’s skill in interpersonal relationships, spiritual growth, nature, and areas of special interest. Each skill is taught with the primary objective of introducing the camper to the reality of Jesus Christ.
Objectives
The main objective of Camp Wawona summer camp ministries is to involve youth and staff in a faith and works relationship with Jesus Christ.
As a camp staff, we also aim to:
Attract children and youth to Jesus Christ through the lives of the staff, programs, and natural surroundings.
Teach an appreciation for the created works of God resulting in lifestyle changes that enhance personal stewardship of our environment.
Model and teach the spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer, solitude, worship, service, and witnessing.
Encourage and call for definite spiritual decisions at the level of the camper’s readiness.
Provide an environment for the development of friendships.
Provide an environment in which campers and staff learn to value people of all backgrounds and cultures, and learn to respect the rights and dignity of all individuals.
Provide a group living experience in which the camper can learn and practice positive citizenship skills, participate in teamwork, and enhance personal responsibility.
Develop new skills and interests and perfect old ones as a means of enhancing the campers sense of self-worth and self-confidence.
Model and teach principles of healthful living, physical fitness, personal hygiene, and safety.
Pursue excellence in programming and standards by fulfilling the accreditation requirements of the American Camping Association.
Equip the staff for a powerful ministry for Jesus Christ.
